A Year of Healing

A Year of Healing

Yesterday I was reading through and sorting out the notes in my iPhone and I found a note that read “2018 : A Year of Healing”. Healing. That was the word I chose for this year.  In just a few months, I had already forgotten. Then, in another note I found this poem that I never even remember reading before and I realized that something had been set into motion.

APPLY WITHIN
by Suzy Kassem

You once told me
You wanted to find
Yourself in the world –
And I told you to
First apply within,
To discover the world
within you.

You once told me
You wanted to save
The world from all its wars –
And I told you to
First save yourself
From the world,
And all the wars
You put yourself
Through.

First save yourself
Fromall the wars
You put yourself
Through.

Deep breath.

And that is exactly why I chose the word heal for this year. To save myself from all the wars I have put myself through. The beauty of “accidentally” stumbling across my 2018 intention AND this poem within 5 minute of each other, is that it prompted me to take a few moments yesterday to sit with it. To sit with myself. And, here’s where I’m at: I really truly feel like I’m starting to save myself from all the wars I put myself through for so many years. I don’t know how the healing is happening, I only know it IS happening. I can feel it. I cannot begin to express what a huge and welcome relief it is. I didn’t even remember that healing was my intention, my hope, and even still, just the intention, the hope alone DID put healing into motion. It feels a little bit like a miracle and it was such a powerful revelation, I knew I had to document it with a photograph, hence the TinType self-portrait. Here’s me, saving myself from the wars I put myself through. Finally.

We’re about a quarter of the way into 2018 and I encourage you to take a few moments to remember your intention (and your word if you have one) and acknowledge where you were, where you are and where you hope to go. Sometimes a little check-in is exactly what we need to be reminded of where we’re at in our process and the positive progress we’ve made.
