CES : 11 Things

CES : 11 Things

After my 11 things post for Reverb10, I started thinking: why not make 11 things a regular thing? People do Top 10 lists all the time. I think going to 11 is pretty awesome.

And with that being said, here are the 11 Things I lived and loved at CES 2011*.

  1. Nokia. My experience with Nokia was stellar. The team of folks at Nokia were class acts all the way. The Nokia N8 is like a dream come true. Having a killer camera, a smart phone and an internet connection (no, I have never had one with my phone) is everything I could have dreamed of and more. And good people to back it make it that much sweeter. It was such a pleasure to be able to share my Nokia Perspective in this capacity.
  2. The Fab Four Three. Meeting my CES cohorts couldn’t have possibly been more of a pleasure. A cross section of bloggy diversity at its finest…the well traveled Cajun Mama Shannon Hurst Lane, the Eco Fabulous Caitlin Bristol and the lean, mean car-guy machine Alex Kierstein felt like family from the minute we met. Just plain amazing people!
  3. Icons. Running into blogging icons Catherine Connors and Alli Worthington not 5 minutes after thinking to myself that there was no possible way I would ever run into anyone I knew on the show floor was a perfectly wonderful respite to the craziness of the whole thing. Oh, and then there was the whole Polaroid / Lady Gaga thing.
  4. Re-connecting. I was fortunate enough, while in Vegas, to have a meeting with the amazing Gary Pageau of PMA / CliQ fame. I cannot tell you what a breath of fresh air that was (especially amidst the crowds and chaos). Did I mention how honored I am to be a part of CliQ?
  5. My husband. Half way through the trip, my husband joined me in Vegas. It.was.awesome.
  6. Serendipity. Walking from one building to the next my husband pointed out a wall of complimentary magazines. Among them was the most recent issue of Digital Photo Magazine. As he handed me a copy, the first thing I noticed on the lower right hand corner of the cover was an image from Andrea Scher with the words, “Think Details!” and when I opened the issue, there was the Shutter Sisters featured article. I jumped up and down right there.
  7. Style. After walking the isles and isles of cell phone cases, I was giddy to find the Trexta booth. Their design sensibilities are unique and super-cool and they were by far my favorite phone cases  (and the most clever) at the show. I was lucky enough to take one home with me and I adore it (as does my N8).
  8. Enchantment. I knew that Guy Kawasaki was somewhere at CES but I wasn’t sure where. Until of course I walked toward the American Express booth and saw his photo. Did I miss Guy’s presentation? I asked, sure I had. The young man replied, He’s going to speak in about 10 minutes. Eureka. I love it when that happens. Needless to say, he was enchanting. See for yourself in the video of his presentation. Well worth the watch.
  9. The Hunt. I was thrilled to be shooting some sights from CES for Mom Blog Magazine while I was there too. Looking around for things that might be of interest to the community there made walking the show floor that much more enjoyable! Like a cool stuff/photo scavenger hunt. I loved it.
  10. Rest. Perhaps the best thing about long and overwhelming days is when you finally get to call it a day. Of course in Vegas, that’s not always the case but for this trip, it most certainly was. Staying at Aria was exceptional. Everything about it was marvelous. From the smell of the air (yes, the air smelled divine) to the décor, to the service, to the rooms (especially the bathtub) I cannot say enough about it. It was heavenly. And then there was the great food, drinks and company of our gracious hosts. Thank you Anna, Kendra, and Megan.
  11. Comic Relief. By far my favorite favorite favorite booth of the whole show (at least from the 80% of it I saw) was the New booth. And this video is why. Everyone loved it. And you will too! Be prepared to laugh. Hard.

*I only hope that my non-tech recap of a cutting-edge tech convention isn’t too disappointing. If you know me, then it won’t be a surprise at all to find that what I got out of the experience goes way beyond the gadgets.

Just so happy to see you back here. I have to say that is quite a list! I especially like the husband joining you and shutter sisters mag spot parts! Congrats. I am so in awe of all you do. A shining example of what can be achieved when you do what you love! I can only imagine how you sustained the pressure of having to produce images at/for this event. Looks like humor eases. One Love and giving thanks.

Hi, Tracey! Sounds like you had a fabulous time in Vegas! And the CliQ opportunity will be amazing . . . and well-deserved. My main reason for popping in today is because I'm a guilty lurker. I've commented a time or two but I lurk more than I comment. I'm using this opportunity to thank you for sharing yourself with us through your blog!
