Diving into Project Life with Another Video

Diving into Project Life with Another Video

As promised, I documented my first day experimenting with Project Life. It was one of the most creative, fun and relaxing (yes, relaxing) thing I’ve done for myself in a long time. And who would have guessed I’m learning things about myself in the process of diving head long into uncharted waters? I guess putting it that way, it would go to figure. Anything new, different and out of the ordinary usually does teach us a thing or two about ourselves.

I appreciate all of your kind comments and encouragement on my first Project Life video post. I’m excited knowing so many of you are doing something like Project Life for yourselves and/or are willing to give it a try with me. I know I keep saying it but I think it’s going to make for an amazing, important and transformative part of remembering and embracing my creative joy.

How is your Project Life process coming along?

You just put a big smile on my face, Tracey! I thought that I’m the only one with not liking her own handwriting… 🙂 I’ve done Project life for two years before, this year I’m on the on and off kind of way of doing it. I’ve decided that I won’t stress about keeping up and doing a photo a day so when I feel like doing it, I just print out random pictures I like and put them into the album under a certain month. It works for me, it’s still documented and that’s what counts.
Enjoy this project and have fun!

I’m not sure how I stumbled across your website, but I did! I’m glad I did because I started PL 5 weeks ago so I’m a newbie as well! I have an almost 3 year old and can count on one hand the number of scrapbook pages I’ve done about her….sad. I decided to just into PL and am so glad that I did. She absolutely loves it and is my motivator to complete each week! She looks at ‘the big book’ daily and tells me stories about each photo. I think it’s a great tool for her and I feel so much better with getting photos into a book and off of the computer. Granted many of my photos are not very exciting and are of things I would never ordinarily scrapbook but they’re our day to day life and a way of remembering things, even the not so important things….and hey, I don’t like my handwriting either but I am forcing myself to do some handwritten cards. I look forward to following your journey as well!

I love this! Love seeing you in a video, hearing your voice, and listening to what you have learned along the way. When I see a finished product that looks so beautiful I long to be able to create something like that. Then I dig in and get frustrated because I am stumbling through the learning curve. Hearing you speak about this and learning new things about yourself along the way is encouraging me to give it another try. I love the idea of document life this way and think that in years to come it will such a fantastic thing to look back on. Thanks for the video and the inspiration.

Thanks Jennifer, that’s so encouraging of you to say. I hope you choose to brave the learning curve with me! If nothing else, it’s giving me more time to do what I keep longing for, work with my hands again. : )

i am a long-time scrapbooker but just started with project about a year and a half ago. and although my daughter is grown and a junior in collge, for me it has been a way to document and celebrate this part of my journey. i’ve taken several of your BPC workshops and between that and PL it’s been my way of affirming that there is still so much beauty and joy to be captured in my ordinary life. and the other thing i love about PL is the tactile aspect. photography is often so tech/screen time heavy for me…so i appreciate the hands on time as a way to balance that. thanks for sharing your PL experience so far. nice to know i’m not the only one who likes to reinvent the wheel from time to time. 🙂

Love to see you documenting your Project Life journey! I started this year, and it’s so amazing! It’s my favorite thing to do/work on! I love how you took notes on what you’ve learned, about PL, your work process, and yourself in general! I so need to do that. It’s crazy…when you started talking about that, I realized that I am aware of what I’m learning about myself and my process, when I’m working on it…but I haven’t written it down and given it any more thought. I really want to do this, so I can make positive changes based on these things I’m learning!
Also, I’m so excited for Thursday!! 😀 Picture Everyday starts!! WHOO HOO!

I totally connect with your statement about attempting to organize, while making it your own. I’ve always tried to do things my own way with mixed results. Which is why I’ve got piles stacked high in my “office”.

I’m new to Project Life too and loving it. I really liked what you said about wanting the layouts to be visually pleasing to you without necessarily being in strict date order. I have found myself getting a little frustrated about that sometimes too so it is nice to hear you’re going to allow yourself the freedom to make it look good.

I also wanted to offer a thought about handwriting. I know you said you don’t like yours and I totally understand but wanted to give you a perspective you might not have thought about. My mom died last year and my sister & I both find ourselves treasuring the random scraps of paper with recipes and notes in her handwriting. I would LOVE seeing her writing documenting photos along our lives in a Project Life binder. We do have some photo albums of my grandmother’s where she wrote notes with names and ages and it is so neat to see her writing and just conveys so much love and care somehow. Your kiddos and their kiddos may love looking at your handwriting someday.

I love following your process! Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Tracey!

I liked watching your video on your progress on Project Life. I just recently. finished my 2012 Project Life and I am kind of organized to finally begin on the 2013. like you, I don’t like following instructions either. In my case, although I would love to buy a Project Life kit, I am challenging myself to. make my own journal cards and fillers to add more of “myself” in the process.
I look forward to watching more of your videos on your Project Life adventure!

    Tracey,

I really cannot stress enough how people treasure notes and parents’ handwriting. I first heard about this from a friend who is not sentimental at all. She said that her mother’s notes and scribbles were really important to her and she loved finding them after her mother died. My grandmother wrote (and crossed out AND had lines that were not straight) in Mother’s baby book, and you can bet I just love that journaling! I might suggest that you do some typewritten journaling BUT consider throwing some handwritten notes in your albums. Another comment: I found an old book of my grandfather’s and he had signed his name in the front. Wow! Now I have his signature, and moreso, the book is entitled. “There is Life after 40.” What an incredible treasure to know that a man born in the 1800’s was interested in a topic we all experience, and I know the content was important to him becuase of his personal signature! I am rambling, but…you get my drift.

    Enjoy! Renee
