They often say, expect the unexpected. Even my horoscope affirmed that “things won’t happen like you planned them”. Such is life.

At a recent wedding, I was planning and plotting for the moment when the bride and groom would see each other for the first time in their wedding best. We began long before the festivities officially started to allow them some time together and me some time to shoot.

Right before the bride walked out, I managed to step right into the hot tub. From what the groom said, I barely made a sound. It happened that fast and I didn’t even see it coming. Just one step and I was submerged up to my waist in a hot tub that I didn’t even know was there. I know…huh? With my ver expensive camera in hand, I somehow managed to keep my arms up enough to hold it and the very expensive lens out of the water as I fell in. There was only 1 drop on the viewfinder. Just 1.

I have no idea how it happened and I have no idea how I got out of the tub, totally unscathed, equipment unharmed. No idea. But, I was soaked from my waist down. SOAKED. It could have been so much worse. So so much. But, it wasn’t. It was fine. It really really was.

Alas, once I processed it all (kind of) I got right back to shooting. We wandered the area, me, snapping away (I just adore the pictures of this day, I might add) and then, I had a small window of time to go back to my hotel room and slip into something a little more comfortable (and dry) for the rest of the day.

Despite the curve ball, the wedding day was full of magic. Beauty, love, friendship, laughter, sunshine, good food…the list goes on and on.

So, what about the unexpected? Well, I guess you never know when it’s going to come (which is why it’s called “UN-expected”) so it’s best to always pack a change of clothes and an extra pair of shoes.
