11 things (I don't need)

11 things (I don't need)

#Reverb10, day 11: What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011?

There’s a few more lines to the prompt but I can’t get past this very first part. Truth is, I literally haven’t stopped thinking about this question from author Sam Davidson (who is my new-found hero) since it was put out there on Dec 11. That was 11 days ago (no I didn’t plan that). Come to think of it, 11 has been my lucky number ever since I my 6th grade Bingo winning streak; winning with the teacher calling our B-11. Every time. I even had a pair of tube socks with orange stripes with the number 11 on them. And I always, always tend to look at the clock at 11:11. But, I digress.

I have been so determined to really be intentional in choosing these 11 things that I don’t need in 2011 beacuse I feel like putting them out there might be the magic shift to get my 2011 started off right; like some kind of cosmic Crystal Drano that will dissolve the clog that keeps all these things bottled up, allowing them to move along, down the pipes of my life so I can just flush them already! Here’s to hoping.

11 Things my life doesn’t need in 2011:

1. Clutter: both physical & mental

2. Accumulation: not allowing for flow

3. Resistance: to systems, growth & change

4. Fear: afraid of allowing, opening up and letting go

5. Self-doubt: questioning my intuition and judgment

6. Uncertainty: vacillating on my decisions

7. Overextending myself: becoming depleted & exhausted

8. Approval seeking: looking for outside acknowledgement

9. Feeling rushed: in work and in play

10. Not slowing down: moving too fast to be deliberate

11. Playing Small: Not being my biggest self

I suppose I could elaborate on these a bit more and write about how I can FEEL how important letting these things go is (down deep deep deep in my bones) but for now, writing this list is enough. As far as the rest of the prompt, like how I plan on doing away with these things? Well, um, I’m going to see how far my Crystal Drano theory will get me.

What about you? Have you got a few things to leave behind?

Yes yes yes! I'm tempted to print out your list and glue it to my forehead as a reminder to myself.

OH WOW! Can I please just have your list be my list for the year? Tracey, these are so awesom! You can tell you spent some time with them, they just are full of juicy intention! Printing now. And, they will for sure inspire me to make my own list. But I'm still using yours too, k?

Same here! No joke, if I'd written my list just now it would have been nearly identical to yours. Except I have hermit tendencies, so I could actually afford to extend myself a little more socially.

What an AMAZING list – I think that those 11 things would be perfect for me to leave behind as well. Thank you for sharing them!!

What a great list. This is inspiring and so universal! When we're overwhelmed trying to figure out what we do want from life, sometimes it's easier to figure out what we don't want and work from there. I love this.

Tracey, your list is so inspirational! I think we can all take bits & pieces of it & make it our own, thank you!

Ok, when I got here there were 11 comments … and I wonder if perhaps I should have left it at that 🙂 don't want to jinx the crystal drano!

Love your list, identify with many of them. Especially love #8 — it is so hard not to want outside approval, we are all still children at heart wanting our parents or our teachers or our friends to pat us on the back.

    Hope your Christmas was lovely!

What an interesting post – I too identify with just about everything on your list, particularly the Self doubt – I never make new year resolutions but for some reason I have actually made 2 this year, but really, I think what you don't need for the coming year is a much better way to go! Thanks for a thought provoking post Tracey

Great list – numbers 7 and 11 really resonated with me. Best of luck getting rid of all this in the new year. I'll be cheering you on!

Cosmic Crystal Drano – I'll take a gross of that, please! Great concept, and I like your list – formidable but necessary. Happy 2011 and cheers to your "biggest self."

I've been thinking about the 11 things my life doesn't need over & over ever since I read your beautiful post. I came up with my own list & like others, I posted your list on my fridge so it'd be right in my face most of the day. But, it also made me think about what my life does need in 2011. So here is that list: 1. Love 2. Beauty 3. Creativity 4. Companionship 5. Family 6. Nature 7. Discovery 8. Art 9. Home 10. Heath 11. Happiness. I know the last 3 are so cliche, but there you have it. Thanks again for your lovely list. I read it every morning as the coffee is brewing 🙂

I think I might borrow your 11 if you don't mind. A perfect list. I identify with all of it. Release. Blow what you don't need away like a dandelion wish! Be gone 11 things and may 2011 be the luckiest year yet! Haven't yet posted my New Year revolutions but I did create a list of my favorite posts from 2010! Blessings. http://somethingblu.wordpress.com/2010/12/31/fare-thee-well-2010-more-lovefrom-the-rock/

This is so great. I just did this week 11 things I was going to do in January. I love the idea of 11 things I want to jettison out of my life. Your blog is always one of the first places I go when I need inspiration. Thank you! And glad to hear you're having a great time as CES. 🙂
